Crusaders of Light and Dark – Rnd 4

BLThis weekend saw the fourth and final round of the Leicester All Scars mini-campaign Crusaders of Light and Darkness down at Tabletop Tyrants. It was the final push for the forces of Darkness to secure equal footing on the planet of Vordrast and anything less than annihilating the enemy would mean failure.

I had been drawn to face one of the newer members but a veteran of older editions of 40k, Peter, with his Tau army defending a Blood of Martyrs mission. Peter would have 2000 pts and as the attacker I would have 3000 pts.

Originally Peter may have been fielding his Blood Angels and my first draft army list featured the great warmaster himself, Abaddon, as I felt this would be an awesome showdown. But once he’d decided on his Tau I changed my mind and went with my usual SAMCRO style legion list.3000pt Chaos Space Marines 6th Ed (Black Legion) (Primary Detachment) Selections:

Created with BattleScribe (http://www.battlescribe.net)1972542_10202291559944770_176494663_nUnfortunately Peter had to work Saturday morning and so I sat waiting for half the afternoon, and once he did arrive he only had his infantry due to a mix up in communications. He quickly made up a list on the fly, set up the scenery and we got underway a little after 2:30pm.

As we had to rush ahead I didn’t get to take any in-game photo’s I’m afraid and the battle report basically consisted of my forces trying to get across the death mire (see the Blood of Martyrs mission for details) with varying degrees of success. Due to not having any of his larger battle suited warriors he didn’t have a lot that could tackle my Spartan head on but thankfully with the scenery set up this didn’t make a major difference.

Although the mission calls for up to 7 turns (unless the attacker wipes the defender out quicker) we only got to the start of turn 5 by the time the store was due to close. With the set up we had I was only just getting to his front lines at this point and while its likely that chaos marines will make mincemeat out of tau in close combat we called it off and it was declared a Light side victory. In hindsight if we weren’t going to start on time we should have played smaller points.

The game itself was fun and Peter is a great guy to play against, we had several laughs (usually at my troops attempting to cross the goop – especially the squad in the rhino that disembarked when it got stuck and then failed to actually swim to shore on their next move by rolling snake eyes as they would be heading into difficult terrain) but I wouldn’t put it down as one of my most enjoyable sessions unfortunately.

Campaign wise the result was a Light side victory so the forces of Darkness have been forced to withdraw from Vordrast – for now.Looking ahead, the next event for the All Scars is the “Bridge too Waargh!” which I wont be attending, due  to being at a Star Trek convention on the day.

My next club event will be the Kill Team competition, and I’m hoping to have a couple of practice games before hand with a few of the members so we can get our heads around the rule set.

Should be fun as I really used to enjoy Necromunda and its smaller scale of skirmish warfare.
