SAMCRO’s trials within the Hecate gate

Posted in 40k with tags , , , , , , , on February 4, 2018 by vobeskhan

So over the past five month’s I have been taking part in the latest of the All Scars annual narrative campaigns – The Hecate Gate.

Basically our forces have been sucked into a demi-plane by Tzeentch and Khorne and are being forced to battle to prove ourselves worthy of facing the final guardian (Magnus) and escape via the Gate.

We formed teams amongst ourselves and I was in team WAAC (Win At All Costs, because its entirely the opposite of how we play). My goal for this campaign was to face as many people that I hadn’t played before as possible or failing that opponents I have a good laugh with.

Game 1 was against David’s Blood Angels, now in 7th edition I had a good track record against the Sanguin Sons however this did not prove so against the brutality of David’s assault.

Game 2 was another imperial force, Crimson Fists run by Adam. This was one of the most fun, relaxed and enjoyable games of 40k I’ve played in ages, and the sneaking a win by 2 points  made it even better.

Game 3 was another first, facing the Ultrasmurfs of Matthew, bouyed by my success against Adam I was brought rapidly down to earth as Matthew’s helblaster entrenched forces ripped me a new orifice. Great fun though.

Game 4 was Blood Angels once again, this time my annual throwdown with Patrick. He brought a Blood Angel and Lamenters force while I fielded my Black Legion with a Thousand Son allied battallion. It was exceedingly close and Patrick thought he’d just managed to secure a draw when I destroyed his leviathon in close combat and reminded him of the Objective card I’d held since the first round to score a point for destroying a unit in assault – sneaky 1 point win to me.

Game 5 was yesterday and was against another of my favourite people to play Dave C, usually I face his Ultrasmurf’s but this time I faced his Thousand Sons. Chaos on Chaos! It was a brutal, fun-filled game with both of us having equal amounts of amazing and dire dice rolls in good measure. Dave came back hard in closing round but the mission conditions granted me just enough points for a 7-5 win.

Another of the fun parts of this campaign was the fact that its the first one I’ve not been involved in running myself, so all I had to do was play my games and enjoy. Huge thanks to all my opponents and Andrew for organising a great campaign – thoroughly enjoyed myself.

All Scars painting challenge – The Survivor Series 2017 – October

So this month I wasn’t really feeling the urge to paint (possibly due to some proposed changes to the series which have sadly been made official since) so just pledged a CSM unit, possibly a Havoc squad.

Settled on a Havoc squad built from my modified Calth heavy weapons men and their accompanying champion.

Not sure if there will be further pledges as the whole format of the series is being altered (with only 2 months of the current year to go for no reason other than the new supervisor within the All Scars wanted to).

New format is pledge any single model rather than a fieldable unit, so single marine/grot/familiar etc.

Showcases will be every other month.

Voluntary “donation” of £5 towards the extra showcase prizes which will also gain you entry to a raffle.

oh well, guess the idea is no longer to encourage us to field painted forces but just have odd miniatures here and there.

All Scars painting challenge – The Survivor Series 2017 – September

This month I knew I wouldn’t have a lot of time (or inclination) to paint so wanted to do something small – having looked in a few of my old boxes I cme across an old rhino back from my Space Wolves days and since that force is never going to see the light of day again I decided to repurpose it for my SAMCRO Black Legion.

It’s not going to win any awards but it matched the rest of my army and thats good enough for me.

Now I just need to decide what to do for Octobers pledge……

All Scars painting challenge – The Survivor Series 2017 – August

So the Survivor Series reaches yet another Showcase month and following the release of 8th edition and its accompanying FW Chaos Index I decided to paint my Helforged Contemptor (modified from a Betrayal at Calth model).

I’ve only used him in a couple of games (mostly in 7th, 1 in 8th) and he usually gets blown to hell.

Originally he was magnetised so he could be removed from his base but once I finished the painting I decided to glue him in place. The pieces on his base are Blood Angel parts donated by fellow All Scar Ricky, and are in “honour” of my annual Christmas throw down with Blood Angel player Patrick.

Hope you like him, I’m quite happy with him, particularly the gloss Nuln Oil wash (first time using that version) making the black armour plates pop a little better.

All Scars painting challenge – The Survivor Series 2017 – July

So this month’s pledge was one of my older miniatures that has sat languishing on the shelf for many a year – Fabius Bile.

It was primered in white but needed a little cleaning up after its long wait. Despite a quick start of the month getting much of the base colours done I then found that I had no mojo to complete the model until this morning.

I wanted his flesh coat to be made up of varying shades to signify the pieces coming from differing sources so used a combination of rakarth flesh, cadian fleshtone, and pallid wychflesh before a wash of reikland flesh.

I’m still not a fan of painting faces (theres a reason we have helmets on the models) but I’m happy with how he’s ended up.

Now just interested to see how he fares in a game, especially after the news that the actual 8th edition codex is only a couple of weeks away!

Black Legion – the Knight of SAMCRO

Posted in 40k with tags , , , , , , on June 18, 2017 by vobeskhan

So the new Index: Chaos was released this weekend and having had my first few reads through I’m still looking forward to playing games in 8th Edition 40k. I’m also more inclined to try fielding my converted knight once again.

It’s previous outing ended with it bashing its opposite number in the first round and ended with both of them reduced to scrap piles. I also finally decided what I wanted to do regards the small conversions on it.

It was already built when I got it from a fellow All Scar,  who had taken the effort to magnetised the gun options and the feet/base and left the waist  capable of splitting apart.

I tend to favour the thermal cannon and chose to add gargoyles to the barrels, as well as a smaller one to the end of the shoulder mounted heavy stubber, as well as adding a sigil of Tzeentch to the groin tabard.

That was as much as I had done until this morning when I decided to scrape off the adeptus emblem from the upper carapace and replace it with a chaos star as well as hacking away the domed “engine” piece on the rear to replace it with a chained hatch from a defiler kit. Then I realised the leg armour still looked too standard so added some spare defiler armour plates the thighs.

All Scars painting challenge – The Survivor Series 2017 – June

So this month I knew I was going to be busy with various projects so didn’t want to over-pledge. In this case I decided to show a little love to one of my “old school” predators which have sat languishing in their primered black state since I got them.

Now, I didn’t build them, they were acquired pre-built and primed, so I really haven’t done anything to them for over 5 years. They not only use the old style rhino chassis but also the predator add-on parts are the old metal type making the model quite weighty too.

Using the same colour scheme as on my vindicator and rhino the predator fits in with the rest of the army, though having used an all-over nuln oil wash I’m considering applying the same to the other vehicles now too.

Anyway, here’s the predator.
